Liver-Related Work

I am involved in the minimally invasive treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the liver and biliary tree. This includes transcatheter treatment of primary and secondary liver tumors, minimally invasive management of portal hypertension, and collaborative therapy in the treatment of liver transplant complications. I have collaborated on research projects in these areas for many years with clinicians from surgical oncology, gastroenterology, and hepatology.

Current liver-related research interests:
  • A Preliminary study of the efficacy and safety of carbamazepine in severe liver disease due to alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (Co-Investigator)
  • Phase III Clinical Trial of Intra-Arterial TheraSphere in the Treatment of Patients with Unresectable HCC (Co-investigator)
  • Intra-arterial TheraSphere in the Treatment of Patients with Unresectable HCC (Co-Investigator)
  • Targeted Intra-arterial Gemcitabine vs. Continuation of IV Gemcitabine plus Nab-Paclitaxel following Induction with sequential IV Gemcitabine plus Nab-Paclitaxel and Radiotherapy for Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer (Co-Investigator)

Techniques and Resources:

  • Trans-arterial Chemoembolization and Radioembolization
  • Percutaneous ablation of liver tumors
  • Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) placement
  • Trans-catheter retrograde obliteration of varices
